I am writing to inform you about some exciting opportunities for this year’s Fulbright competition for 2013-2014. Every year, Fulbright scholars from across the United States engage in activities that illuminate the “American experience” for other countries and cultures, from teaching African American History in China, to discussing American public education trends in Japan. By defining and participating in projects that delve beneath the surface of topical issues, Fulbright scholars consistently transcend brief cultural encounters by facilitating meaningful exchanges of ideas and fostering mutual understanding, in accordance with the philosophy set forth by Senator Fulbright himself.
Due to your disciplinary expertise and interest in topics involving the United States, we encourage you to consider the following awards in the corresponding countries:
China
Award #3092 “Study of the United States.” Teaching opportunities in the following disciplines: American History, American Literature, American Studies, Education, Philosophy and Political Science.
Hong Kong
Award #3099 “Study of the United States.” Teach undergraduate courses at the University of Hong Kong in any appropriate discipline, with the following disciplines preferred: American History, American Literature, American Studies, Film Studies, Music, Political Science, and Sociology.
Japan
Award #3105 “Study of the United States.” Teach undergraduate or graduate courses in the following disciplines: American History, American Literature, American Studies, Art History, Business Administration, Communications, Economics, Education, Film Studies, Law, Philosophy, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, or Theater.
Korea
Award #3110 “Study of the United States.” Teaching or teaching/research opportunities particularly sought in the following disciplines: American History, American Literature, American Studies, Business Administration, Economics, and Political Science.
Mongolia
Award #3115 “All Disciplines.” Teaching or teaching/research opportunities in all disciplines, with a special interest in projects promoting the Study of the United States.
Philippines
Award #3119 “Fulbright SyCip Distinguished Lecturing Award: Study of the United States.” For 2-4 weeks, give lectures on topics involved in business administration or political science at universities and organizations throughout the Philippines.
Award #3121 “Study of the United States.” Teach undergraduate or graduate courses in an interdisciplinary American Studies program. Disciplines included: American History, American Literature, American Studies, Economics, Law, and Philosophy.
Thailand
Award #3129 “Study of the United States.” Teaching opportunities in the following disciplines: American History, American Literature, American Studies, Education, Law, Philosophy, Political Science, and Sociology.
Vietnam
Award #3130 “All Disciplines.” Teaching opportunities are available in all disciplines, with a special interest in projects promoting the Study of the United States.
In the East Asia and Pacific region alone, there are over 150 awards from which to choose in Australia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Please refer to our Catalog of Awards for more extensive award listings.
The deadline for the upcoming competition is August 1st, 2012, so please get started on your application! In the meantime, and throughout the process, we will be happy to answer any questions you may have. We hope to see your application in the next few months.
